An import permit must be applied for from the Veterinary Quarantine Authority in Bahrain. Bahrain is part of the Pets travel scheme which allows pets into the country which have been micro-chipped first then vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days, but not more than 6 months before pet relocation. Dogs must be vaccinated against parvo, hepatitis, canine distemper and leptospirosis and must have certification from a veterinarian stating that these vaccinations have been administered. Puppies which are younger than 2 months must have all of these vaccinations administered and then again within a month before they are exported to Bahrain. All cats must be micro-chipped and should have the tri-cat and rabies vaccines and must also have certificates from a veterinarian stating these have been administered in country of origin. Kittens should have the vaccines and then re-administered within a month before travelling to Bahrain. The most recent vaccination should not be more the six months prior to travelling but not less than 30 days of the planned journey.
