Pet Relocation to Botswana

Pet Relocation

Relocating pets is regulated for public health reasons and also for the well being of the animal. Domestic pets and livestock may be imported subject to animal health restrictions. For details contact the Director of Animal Health and Production, Private Bag 0032, Gaborone.
Dogs and cats must first be micro-chipped then vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days, but not more than 6 months, prior to moving pets to Botswana. The Botswana Authorities also demand that the animals are accompanied by a veterinary export health certificate signed, stamped and dated within 5 days by a licensed government veterinarian in country of origin prior to entering Botswana.
Note: A valid Certificate (micro-chip) of Identity, a rabies vaccination certificate and Movement Permit issued in Lesotho, Malawi, South Africa, Swaziland, Namibia or Zimbabwe will be accepted at the time of importation into Botswana.
The above are pet relocation guidelines only which are subject to change. Contact the Embassy of Botswana , or Consulate, for current requirements before the pet relocation.
