Pet Relocation; All pets must travel with a Import Permit issued through the Macedonia Authorities. There is no quarantine for pets entering Macedonia. First, have your cat or dog micro-chipped then vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days, but not more than 12 months, accompanied by the certificate to prove that this had been done. Dogs must also be fully vaccinated against Distemper, hepatitis and Leptospirosis. Cats must be vaccinated against Feline Enteritis, Feline Rhinotracheitis and Feline Calicivirus.
Pets must be accompanied by a export health certificate signed, stamped, and dated with 4 days or arriving into the country by a licensed government veterinarian in country of origin.
Macedonia has a veterinary hospital but pet owners seem to prefer to take their pets to Thessaloniki, Greece, for more serious treatment. Veterinary pharmaceuticals are limited. If your pet requires regular medication, it is a good idea to bring a supply with you. This is also true for any special dietary needs of your pet. A limited supply of pet supplies and foods (Pedigree brand) are available at the vet hospital or pet stores in the city. Food and accessories are expensive and limited in variety.
These are guidelines only which are subject to change. Contact the Embassy of Macedonia for current requirements about bringing pets into their country.
