Pet Relocation to Namibia

Pet Relocation; Importation permits are required for all animals entering Namibia. The country that the pet is shipped from will determine if the pet will be subject to quarantine. Birds are subject to a 30-day quarantine. The application process for importation permits requires sending documents back and forth between the pet owner and the Namibian Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Rural Development’s State Veterinarian office, so we recommends starting the process at least 2 months ahead of arrival. A current rabies vaccination is required which must accompany the animal, and must show that the pet had been vaccinated at least 30 days, but not more than 6 months, prior to entering Namibia. The import permit must accompany the pet during shipment. A export health certificate is required for cats and dogs by a licensed government veterinarian in country of origin, signed, stamped and dated within 48 hours of export. Certain animals, especially certain bird species, require an additional permit. After arrival, dogs and cats will be immediately released to the custody of the owner on the understanding that the pet will be brought to the State Veterinarian in town for final health approval, if not quarantine. These are guidelines only which are subject to change. Contact the Embassy of Namibia for current requirements about bringing pets into their country.
