Pet Relocation to South Africa


Relocating Pets into South Africa; A quarantine period of 14 days applies to dogs from a number of specified countries, including Mexico, Japan, Brazil, China, India, Korea and the United Arab Emirates. Cats are exempt from quarantine. With the exception of the UK, Australia and New Zealand, pets must First be micro-chipped then vaccinated against rabies not less than 30 days and not more than 12 months before entering the country. An import permit is required for all pets, which must be applied for through the Director: Veterinary Services, Import Export Policy Unit , Private Bag X138 , PRETORIA 0001, SOUTH AFRICA . Pets from neighbouring countries need a Movement Permit, stamped by a licensed government veterinarian in those destinations. A Export Health Clearance Certificate signed, stamped and dated within 4 days by a licensed government veterinarian in country of origin and a laboratory certificate of blood tests for dogs. All pets travelling by air must be booked as Manifest Cargo.
