Pet Relocation to Sudan

Bringing Pets to the Sudan; Careful consideration should be made before bringing a pet to Sudan. Owners should keep in mind the extreme heat and possibilities of disease. Though death/illness of pets does not happen often, a few very unfortunate incidents have occurred. Many people choose to adopt animals found in Khartoum, such as dogs, cats, even rabbits. Veterinary care is available in Khartoum for treatment or vaccinations. Pets may be imported into Sudan with the correct import permit, together with a rabies vaccination certificate showing the pet had been vaccinated at least 30 days, but not more than 6 months, prior to export. Pets must also be accompanied by a Export Health Certificate signed, stamped, and date within 5 days of export by a licensed government veterinarian in country of origin. The pet owner should hand-carry original documents relating to the pet with them as well as attach documents to the animal’s shipping container. Sudanese embassies and consulates can also issue pet import permits. Pets arriving without a permit are subject to quarantine and possible extermination. These are guidelines only which are subject to change. Contact the Sudanese Embassy or Consulate for Import Permit and other current requirements about moving pets into their country.
