Bringing pets to Zimbabwe; No quarantine period is required for cats and dogs in Zimbabwe. An Import Permit issued by the Zimbabwe Authorities must accompany the pet. A export health certificate must also accompany the pet signed, stamped, and dated within 4 days by a licensed government veterinarian in country of original. Birds can be imported, but the paperwork process takes between 2- 3 months to complete. Pets must also be accompanied by a rabies vaccination certificate showing that the pet had been vaccinated at least 30 days, but not longer than 6 months, prior to entering Zimbabwe. It is also advisable to have your pet dog vaccinated against distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus. Veterinary services are quite adequate. Dogs and cats are dipped for fleas and ticks regularly during summer (October to April). These are guidelines only which are subject to change. Contact the Embassy of Zimbabwe, or Consulate, for current requirements.
